The residents of Indira Nagar area of Srinagar city are brewing anger against the Roads and Buildings department (R&B) and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday for failing to repair a link road adding to woes of locals.
According to the locals, the Indira Nagar- G.B Pant Hospital link road which was dugout by SMC for construction of underground drainage few months ago has been left incomplete causing immense hardships to residents.
“Few months ago SMC started construction of drain in the area and dug the whole road, but the drainage construction was left incomplete and the link road remains in pathetic condition,” a group of residents said .
The residents said that they approached SMC but had to return unconvinced as the department pointed that it was the job of R&B department to reconstruct the road.
“The SMC official said that it was not their work to construct a road and pertains to the R&B department. But more than two months have passed now but road is in shambles creating inconvenience to commuters, they said.
A local resident at Indira Nagar, Ghulam Hassan said road is in shambles from past one year taking heavy toll on commuters especially shopkeepers who face problems due to dust emanating from the road.
“During any emergency situation, we are enable use this road, we have to use alternative route to reach the emergency spot,” he said.
They accused both the R&B and SMC for non-seriousness approach towards people of the area.
The road has been in shambles from last couple of months and now those unrepaired portions have turned into craters posing risk of accidents to the commuters,” he said
The angry residents appealed Roads and Buildings department and Srinagar Municipal Corporation to visit the area and solve the problem so that they have a sigh of relief.
An official at SMC said they would look in this matter and the problem will be solved as soon as possible adding that strict action will be taken against defaulters. (JKNS)
