Police has arrested two bootleggers and recovered 53 bottles of illicit liquor in district Pulwama.
A police official on Wednesday said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Galander Pampore in Awantipora on Tuesday. “Police intercepted a vehicle, which was on way from Srinagar to Anantnag, at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 53 bottles of illicit liquor,” he said.
He said two persons onboard the vehicle, identified as Bashir Ahmad Baba and Zahoor Ahmad Shah, were immediately taken into custody.
He said during questioning police learnt that the accused were involvement in bootlegging, transporting and illegal sale of liquor in the area. “A case FIR No 57/2019 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Pampore,” he said.
He said Community members have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well, adding police has resolved to act tough against anti social elements.
