2-day oro-dental check-up, treatment camp concludes at KU

A two-day oro-dental check-up and treatment camp organised by the Kashmir University Health Centre in collaboration with the Department of Public Dentistry, Government Dental College, Srinagar concluded here Thursday.

KU Vice Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan inaugurated the camp on Wednesday. Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar, Prof Aijaz Shah, was also present on the occasion.

Prof Nilofer Khan visited various sections of the camp where specialised doctors were screening and providing treatment to students and employees of the university.

Expressing her satisfaction with the professional conduct of the camp, Prof Khan, said: “The university administration is deeply conscious of the well-being of its employees and student community. This camp is another initiative reflecting our commitment to their health.”

KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, in his message, reiterated the varsity’s commitment towards ensuring a healthy campus life and assured of continuing such endeavours with even higher spirits and energy.

“Our university has conducted similar camps in the past as well for ailments such as diabetes, cardiac issues, eye diseases and endocrine disorders and will continue to deliver with the best possible health practices,” he reiterated.

Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar, Prof Aijaz Shah, emphasised the ongoing support from the college for dental health awareness by bringing this essential services to the masses.

“We are dedicated to extending dental health awareness to the grassroots level and will continue to support such causes in future as well,” he said.

Incharge Head, Public Health Dentistry, Dr Asim Farooq, delivered a health talk to participants, including students from the University Model School, raising awareness about preventing various oro-dental ailments.

Coordinator, University Health Centre, Dr Khalid Nazir, outlined the broader objectives of the programme and said that a significant population suffers from oro-dental diseases.

“The aim of this camp is to examine patients for early detection of diseases and to impart awareness regarding oral hygiene practices and dietary modifications to curb this menace,” Dr Nazir said.

A specialised team of doctors, headed by Dr Asim Farooq from Government Dental College, Srinagar, evaluated around 200 patients on the first day and provided basic treatment.

The camp's activities were coordinated by Medical Officers Dr Suraya Jan, Dr Azhar Ahmad Wani and Dr Iqra Mehraj.

 

More than 550 patients including students from the University Model School received a range of services including dental check-ups, cleaning of teeth, extractions, light cure fillings and other restorative procedures besides oral health education and free medicines.
