Air traffic resumes

Air traffic was resumed from Srinagar International Airport, following improvement in visibility after remaining affected yesterday due to fresh snowfall.
However, morning flights were delayed due to poor visibility.
“Air traffic was resumed from Srinagar airport following improvement in the visibility,” an official of the airport said.
However, due to poor visibility no flight operate could operate initially he said adding as the day progressed, the visibility improved and all the flights were able to operate from the airport,” he said.
As many as 15 flights operate from the airport between Srinagar, Jammu and New Delhi as per schedule.
Yesterday, only eight flights were able to operate from the only airport in the valley while seven were cancelled due to snowfall.
This was the fourth time that air traffic from the only airport in the Kashmir valley was affected due to snowfall in the last less than one month.
Air traffic from the airport was suspended four times since January 6, when there was first heavy snowfall, after about six month long dry spell, badly hitting air travellers, particularly tourists.
The closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country and cancellation of dozens of flights due to snowfall and poor visibility since this month, the air fare has witnessed major increase.
