Asserting that Chenani-Nashri tunnel is leap towards development for Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked stonepelters to identify the real power of stone.
“The Government of India might have provided funds for constructing tunnel but there is also a fragrance of sweat of people who worked hard in this project,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a jam-packed public rally here after inaugurating country’s longest Chenani-Nashri tunnel.
“On one side there are ‘misled’ youth of Kashmir indulging into stone pelting and at the same time there is youth who cut stones and make future of Jammu and Kashmir,” said the Prime Minister.
“I want to tell to people of Kashmir valley that it is not only a tunnel in Udhampur-Ramban but a ‘luck line’ for the people in Valley,” he said adding that youth in Kashmir must identify the real power of stone.
“Kashmiri farmer works hard, cultivates land but at the time of exporting goods outside, the highway get closed either due to snowfall or landslide due to which the crop or goods get destroyed,” said Mr Modi.
Terming tunnel as blessing, he said, “now they can export their goods throughout the country without facing any problem.”
“I want to assure you that Centre is with you. We will provide you infrastructure to boost tourism in the state, which will further enhance economy of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Mr Modi.
Last year 80,000 crore package was announced for the state, he said adding, “I am happy that more than half of it is seen on the ground.”
The Prime Minister had all words of praise for Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her cabinet ministers for utilising the developmental funds.
“If a single tunnel can change the destiny of Kashmir valley, in future there are nine more in pipeline,” he said adding, “it will not only be network of roads but of hearts too.”
Let us take the ‘development yatra’ forward in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the government want to develop all the three regions of the state.
Earlier, in the begining Mr Modi said that he feels blessed to visit Jammu in the foothills of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi during navratras.
He asked the gathering to take out their mobiles and switch on the flash lights to be a part of tunnel inauguration.
“There are so many tunnels in the country, but Chenani -Nashri tunnel is an art of engineering and constructed keeping in mind the global warming and environment,” he asserted.
