The Joint Forum of Editors from Kashmir on Monday boycotted the meeting with Press council of Kashmir.

According to the forum, the Joint Forum of Editors consisting of 23 Members reached the Directorate of Information at 3:30pm as fixed and conveyed to its President GH Kaloo But even after waiting for one hour in the Waiting Hall, there was no word from the concerned officials.

“Since it was humiliating and insulting for the respected Editors, so they left the Directorate without meeting the delegation of the Press Council of India. This is the treatment given to the Fourth Estate in the State of J&K which is not only attack on the Freedom of Press but an attempt to suppress the genuine voice of the Media. The members of the Forum, whose number is more than 300, have decided to devise a strategy to counter the anti-Media Policy of the governmen,” they said.

A Sub-Committee of the Press Council of India (PCI) headed by S N Sinha arrived here today on a weeklong visit to Kashmir to discuss the issues facing the media in J&K.
The other members of the Sub-Committee include C K Nayak, Dr Suman Gupta and Naveen Joshi.

During their stay in the Valley, the PCI Sub-Committee members met the Media Owners, Editors and Journalists at Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla to take first-hand appraisal of the issues confronting the Media in Kashmir.
