2nd J&K State Jeet Kune Do championship begins in Srinagar

The four-day second edition of J&K State Jeet Kune Do championship was inaugurated on Tuesday at S K Indoor Stadium Complex in the summer capital, Srinagar.
Over 800 participants from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir are taking part in the championship, making it one of the biggest state level martial art event held in the valley. The event is being organized J&K State Jeet Kune Do Association and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Unified Martial Arts (JKAUMA).
The players who will be selected in this State championship will be qualified to participate in the upcoming National championship of the martial arts form.
Several top players, who have represented J&K and India at various national and international events, dazzled the audience with their entertaining demonstrations. Bilal Ahmad, showcased self-defence techniques and body flexibility while Suriya Khalil and Rifat gave demonstration on the occasion.
“I am really happy to see such good number of players from different parts of the state participating in the event. Such events give an opportunity to the players to showcase their talent. The organizers of the event have done a great job by organizing such an amazing event,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who was the chief guest of the event, said.
He lauded ‘Drugs out, Sports In’ initiative launched by JKAUMA and assured full support from the government in promoting healthy living through martial arts and fighting drug addiction. “The district administration is alive to the problem of drug addiction and measures are being taken to curtail it,” he added.
“Over 800 participants from different districts, representing various schools, colleges and clubs are participating in this State championship,” Omar Gassi, the organizer of the event, said.
“One of the major problems in drug de-addiction is relapse because the victims are unable to locate any constructive platform which can engage them positively. JKAUMA spearheading its missing intends to fill that vacuum by bringing in martial arts which not only focuses on physical development but strengthening the mental facilities of a person,” he added.
