30 Lakh Pre-Paid subscribers remain cut off

November 06, 2019 | BK NEWS DESK/SRINAGAR

With continuous suspension of prepaid mobile services across Kashmir, the consumers here have expressed resentment, stating that they are facing huge losses as their only number available with their business partners are not being converted to postpaid services.
At least 30 lakh prepaid consumers are awaiting the conversion of their respective prepaid services or restoration of mobile phone services.
The services remained suspended across Kashmir since August 5, when the government in centre announced the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcation of erstwhile State onto two Union territories, the decision which was implemented on October 31, 2019.
Pertinently, the postpaid mobile phone services across Kashmir were restored on October 14, which was suspended on the intervening night of August 4 and August 5.
However, the prepaid consumers across Kashmir demanded the government to lift the suspension order on prepaid services or allow the cellular companies to convert the services to postpaid.
“I have submitted a curriculum Vitae in a company for a job wherein I have mentioned my prepaid number, but unfortunately, the services are still suspending, and I am not aware whether they have called me so far,” a prepaid subscriber said.
He said that the cellular companies are although providing new connections to the people, but those who have already provided numbers to their relatives and others are being deprived to avail the benefits again.
Another businessman from Srinagar said that the government must allow the cellular companies to convert the prepaid numbers into postpaid services or should restore the services at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
They said that their business partners who usually call them on the primary prepaid numbers are unable to contact them for a long, adding that the government must look into the sufferings being faced by the people. (KNO)
