550 Families taken as hostage as human shields by IS in Mosul

Approximately 550 families from adjoining areas of Mosul have been taken hostage by IS as human shields, reported UN. The spokesperson of UN Ravina Shamdasani has verified this incident from the local contacts in Iraq. As per the local sources nearly 200 families are from Samalia village and rest of 350 are from Najafia area. US led coalition which includes Kurdish fighters and Iraqi forces have launched a major operation against IS to capture the Mosul. A far as the IS is concerned Mosul is their highest stronghold in Iraq.
