A Month of Heavenly Achievements

Purusottam-mass appears once in three years. This month has a special significance in Hinduism. The Hindu community of India, usually engage in religious activities throughout this month, worship, Bhagwad bhakti, fasting, chanting, religious yatras and yoga etc. It is believed that the religious activities carried out in Purosttom Mass are ten times more fertile than those done in any other month of year. That is why the Vishnu devotees use this month time more carefully with full of their strength, to offer their heart and soul in the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu to attain happiness and blessings of Almighty.
Now, first para of this article is making curious to readers, if this Holi month is so impressive and sacred, why does it come every three years? Why doesn’t every year? Why is it considered so sacred? Why is this one month called by three different names?? So today, you know the answers to many of these questions with its significance.
Indian astrology based on the calculation and movement of two planets sun and moon. The aadhikmas is an additional part of the lunar year, which arises after a period of every 32 months, 16 days and a few minutes. The reason behind to create one additional of extra month is to balance or fill the gap between the sun year (365 days) and the lunar year (354 days) .
According to the Indian count system of a year, each sun year is of 365 days and about 6 hours, while the lunar year is considered to be 354 days. There is a gap of about 11 days between the two years, which equals about one month time in every three years duration. To fill the same gap, a lunar month comes into existence once in every three years, which has been renamed as the Adhikmass because 30 days of adhikmas doesn’t count neither in lunar nor in sun year days, so these 30 days are additional. Hindi translation of additional is aadhik.
In Hinduism, all sacred deeds have been considered prohibited during the Aadhikmass. This month is completely dedicated to worship… worship and worship. It is believed that since this month neither part of lunar year nor sun year, it count as additional. Therefore, during this month, the specific personal rites of Hinduism such as naam sanskaar, marriage and Ghrah Pravesh, purchase of new precious items, etc., are not to practice or advisable as per Holi textbooks. Because this month is weak for doing personal sanskar, that’ why it is called malmass.
As per stories of Puranas In Hinduism, every lunar month represents to a lord or deity. The deity of month blesses to his devotees in that particular month. Since Aashikmass was an additional month, and not count in either side of lunar or sun, it is appeared just for balancing the gap of time, so no deity was ready to take this month in his ownership. But Lord Vishnu as the owner of whole universe, happily accepted to become the owner of this additional month, since then it is called Purosttam Mass.
This month is one of the most precious months, if we are thinking for purify our whole chakras and inside body, by engaging ourselves in fasting, meditation yoga, listening of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha ji, chanting so we can tune our body and mind. In this way, it is a month to improve ourselves than a normal one, to remove darkness from mind and heart. This month is a gift to mankind. In this month a Hindu can practice the real religious life a Hindu.
Relation of Aadhikmass with Shrimad Bhagwat Katha ji
As per the story of Asuraraj Hiranykashyapu Moksha, Hiranykashyapu pleased Brahma Ji with his strict worship or sadhana and sought the blessing of immortality from Chaturanan Brahma. Brahma ji denied to bestow the blessing of immortality and asked him to ask for any other virtue. Then Hiranykashyap asked him that he would not be killed by any creature of Brahma. He does not get death in 12 months of the year. Then, Lord Vishnu took incarnation in the month of Aadhikmas as Nrishig Avatar and killed asurraj hiranykashyapu.
Aadhikmas is Holi month for Vishnu Devotees, they change their living style in this month, start early wakeup and do chanting, fasting, prayers, and start following rule of worship one month. Listening Shrimad Bhagwat Katha and Organising Shrimad Bhagwat Katha Anusthan etc and highly beneficial for religious gain. Chant of Gurumantra throughout the month is one of the most powerful tool to attain immense peace and happiness of life. Such practices removes all type of curse, sorrow and hurdle of gains.
