ADC Baramulla draws flak for assaulting lockdown ‘violators’

May 13, 2021 | BK News Service

The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Baramulla on Wednesday evoked criticism for assaulting alleged lockdown violators in this north Kashmir township.
A video of ADC, Mohammad Ahsan Mir, circulated on social media which shows him purportedly hitting people with a stick, including women.
He is also seen shoving and kicking people on the roads in Azad Gunj area of Baramulla purportedly to enforce the coronavirus lockdown.
Mir has apologised after the video went viral, “I feel until we do something extraordinary, people will not understand.”
Mir is also seen in the video screaming and hitting an elderly woman while asking her to go back. He is then seen hitting a man twice, kicking him around before pushing him away with a stick.
The video drew condemnation from netizens in Kashmir.
“Law enforcement agencies can’t behave like GOONS. With Authority there is Responsibility. Strict action should be taken against him for violating Human Rights. He can’t beat people,” BJP leader Sheikh Khaled Jehangir tweeted.
The divisional commissioner and deputy commissioner have taken note of the video, “We are assessing the facts after which action will be taken if required,” DC Baramulla said.
