Admin refuses to activate data centre of KU for exams

October 15, 2019 | BK NEWS DESK/SRINAGAR

While the state administration is gearing up to hold all pending examination of college students and annual board exams, the administration has refused to activate the data center of Kashmir University (KU).
The activation of data centre would enable the students to submit their examination forms online from their respective colleges or any internet facilitation centre established by the administration.
Earlier, the advisor to Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai convened a meeting with Kashmir University administration to review the conduct of pending college examination and other scheduled exams as well.
In the meeting, it was decided that 4th semester undergraduate exams will resume from last week of October. The 4th semester exams had commenced in August but were halted post decision of government of India to reorganize Jammu and Kashmir.
"In the meeting KU administration had sought internet facilities for their Data centre which would enable the students to submit their examination forms online at one click," an official said who was part of the review meeting.
He said now the college students will have to submit their examination forms through manual process which is time consuming and may cause inconvenience for the students as well.
"If government would agree to provide internet facilities for our data centre then students need to submit their registration number and other details will get auto generated on the forms which decreases the chances of errors in submitting the forms," the official said.
Also, secretary higher education department, Talat Parvez Ruhella had given an undertaking to the government on behalf of the Kashmir University seeking restoration of internet facilities for the data centre but the move has not yet yielded any results.
"Even, secretary had stated that KU will use data centre properly and exclusively for college students but administration is yet to consider it," the official said.
On Saturday, Ruhella took a separate review meeting at MA road Women’s College to review the preparedness of colleges regarding conduct of all under graduate examination.
The secretary higher education department assured the colleges that all necessary arrangements will be provided to colleges for smooth conduct of exams.
"Even if any college faces security threat, the concerned heads of such college should take up the matter with administration and appropriate action will be taken," secretary told the meeting. (KNO)
