Key NDA constituent Akali Dal on Monday urged the Government of India to take up with Pakistan and in other international fora on the frequent attacks on Sikhs in Pakistan.
A delegation led by Shiromani Akali Dal led by party president, Sukhbir Singh Badal met External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and urged the Centre to take up the matter at all international fora including the UN
The Akali Dal also submitted a memorandum, party sources later said.
Mr Badal lamented that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and the authorities there did not give any assurance to Sikh community to maintain peace and harmony vis-a-vis the minority Sikhs there.
On Sunday, India had strongly condemned the "targeted killing" of a minority Sikh community member in Pakistan's Peshawar and urged Islamabad to "take immediate action" to apprehend and give exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the heinous act.
"India strongly condemns the targeted killing of minority Sikh community member in Peshawar that follows the recent despicable vandalism and desecration of the holy Gurdwara Sri Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib and the unresolved case of abduction, forced conversion and marriage of a Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur," the MEA said in a statement here.
According to media reports, a 25-year-old Sikh identified as Ravinder Singh was murdered in Peshawar, Pakistan. However, the alleged killer has not been identified yet.
The victim's body was found under the Chamkani Police Station area in Peshawar.
Earlier, reports suggested that hundreds of angry residents at Nankana Sahib pelted the Sikh pilgrims with stones on Friday.
The killing of the Sikh man came close on the heels of a Muslim mob attack on a revered Sikh shrine in Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak.
