Amid unrest in Kashmir, CAPD distributes 63% ration: Zulfkar

Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution and Legal Metrology Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has reviewed supply position in Kashmir and expressed satisfaction over distribution of 63 percent foodgrains for the month of July notwithstanding the situation of curfew and unrest in the Valley.

In the meeting which was attended by Secretary to Government, CAPD Shafiq Raina, Director CAPD Kashmir Syed Mushtaq Shah, Special Secretary to Government Akbar Ganie, Director Finance, CAPD Suresh Koul and other senior functionaries, the Minister was briefed that out of the total release of 452497 quintal ration , the department has distributed 2.83 lack quintal foodgrains among the consumers of Valley. He was briefed that 3670 quintal of foodgrains was distributed in Anantnag district, 23366 quintal was distributed in Bandipur, 68516 quintal was distributed in Baramulla, 28130 quintal distributed in Budgam, 11405 quintal stood distributed in Ganderbal, 47611 in Kupwara, 9262 in Kulgam, 20009 quintal in Pulwama, 6051 quintal in Shopian, 32560 quintal in Srinagar, 7169 quintal in Leh and 6996 quintal in Kargil districts.

Expressing satisfaction over stock of sufficient foodgrains, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said that his department had engaged 221 trucks on July 16 and 17 in 8 districts of valley including 80 trucks in Srinagar which were ferrying foodgrains for the convenience of public during the period of unrest in the Valley so that people of the region may not face any food problem.

The Minister said that his department is trying to supply foodgrains to every corner despite the department is facing various problems. He appreciated the role of officers of CAPD and officials of the Department besides dealers, Ghat Munshi’s  / Fair Price Shop owners who have played significant role in distribution of ration in this tough time. “Our officials / dealers and Ghat Munshi’s always helped the people in trouble and they had also earlier played vital role during unrest of 2010 or flood situation of 2014”, the Minister said lauding his CAPD team for showing excellent work in distribution of foodgrains in the valley during the period of unrest.

The Minister said that government is committed to supply every essential commodity to the people. He said that there is sufficient stock available in the valley and they are trying to distribute 100 percent stock within few days. He said that 589 trucks loaded with essential commodities  have crossed Lower Munda Toll Post. He said that government managed supply of 20,000 chicken birds last day while 13 trucks of live sheeps, 20 trucks of fruits, 37 trucks of vegetables, 63 Tankers of Diesal, 40 Tankers of Petrol, 265 trucks of Kiryana items, 108 trucks of foodgrains, 15 Tankers of LPG and 20 Tankers of Kerosene oil were managed for Valley.

About the stock of sugar in Valley, the Minister was apprised that against the total 452497.43 quintal sugar for the month of July , the Department has distributed 207076 quintal and remaining is being distributed among the consumers. The Department brought into the notice of Minister that there is no shortage of sugar or foodgrains supplied by CAPD in the Valley.

The Minister also took indepth review of stock and supply position of Srinagar city and sought detail of colony wise distribution. The Minister was briefed that the Department has distributed ration in maximum areas including hyper sensitive areas like Downtown, Khanyar, Bemina. The Minister was briefed that the Department officials opened Ration Ghats of Hathi Khan, Khujyarbal, Barbarshah, Gawkadal, Naedkadal, Mirzabagh, Kolipura, Khalifa Pura, Maliksahib, Dulbagh, Marjanpura, Malpura Nawakadal, Tengpora Nawakadal and Laigedoori areas of highly sensitive Downtown and distributed ration among the people.

The Minister was also briefed that the Department opened 41 Ration Ghats of Srinagar on July 16 and distributed ration among the people. On July 17 and 18, the Department managed ration supply to consumers of Srinagar city through 70 Ration ghats. (CNS)
