July 16, 2024 | BK News Service

Professor Jasim Mohammad, a donor member, former Media Advisor of AMU and alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has submitted a request to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naima Khatoon, and Members of Executive Council of AMU advocating for the establishment of new academic centres dedicated to Hindu Studies, Buddhist Studies, and Jain Studies at the university.
In his letter to Vice-Chancellor of AMU, Professor Jasim Mohammad emphasized the importance of these centres in contributing to the academic environment of AMU and aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He remarked, "Introducing these centres would develop religious harmony and respect among communities."
Professor Jasim Mohammad stated, "Our country is home to many diverse traditions and philosophies, each contributing to the nation’s heritage. Adding centres for Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain Studies will enhance the university’s role in promoting knowledge and understanding of these important traditions."
Jasim Mohammad also emphasized on the significance of religious harmony for a peaceful and progressive society. "When we learn about different religious traditions, we build bridges of understanding and mutual respect. These new centres will play a significant role in promoting such harmony by educating students about the values and teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism," he said.
Moreover, he emphasized the academic and cultural benefits of studying these religions. "Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism have contributed immensely to Indian culture and thought. By studying these religions, students can gain insights into the philosophies, literature, art, and history that have shaped India over centuries," he added.
Professor Mohammad believes that establishing these centres will position AMU as a leader in promoting comprehensive education, attracting students from various backgrounds, and will develop a more diverse and vibrant academic community. "Creating these centres will also position AMU as a leader in promoting comprehensive education," he asserted.
He urged the university's leadership to consider this request, noting, "Your leadership and vision can play a pivotal role in bringing this idea to fruition, which will benefit both the university and its students."
