Another militant killed in Kupwara, toll at 7

Another suspected militant was killed on Friday in a reging encounter between forces and militants in Waderbala village of Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to officials, the toll of the dead ‘militants’ killed in Kupwara district over the past 24 hours has reached seven with the latest killings. Police sources said the militants were killed in three different encounters.
A senior police officer said a search operation was launched by a joint team of police and army after specific information about the presence of militants in Waderbala village of Handwara. “The militants hiding in the area fired upon the joint party, triggering an encounter in which a militant was killed,” the officer said.
Three militants were killed in an encounter in Dobwan forests of Lolab area of the district while three more militants were killed in another gunfight that raged in Waterkhani forests of Drugmulla area of the district.
“The identification of all the six militants killed from last 24 hours is yet to be ascertained,” the officer said, adding that a large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the sites of encounters.
