Army pays tribute to soldier killed in Kupwara avalanche

Army today, paid a befitting tribute to Late Sepoy Nikhil Sharma in a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt. Lt Gen BS Raju, GOC Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage on behalf of the proud Nation. In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in to pay their last respects.

Late Sepoy Nikhil Sharma was deployed on a forward post in the Tangdhar Sector. On 17 November 2020, owing to a sudden snow avalanche, he got buried under several feet of snow. He was rescued and evacuated to the nearest military medical facility, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Late Sepoy Nikhil Sharma was 25 years old and had joined the Army in 2016. He belonged to village Rathian of Udhampur district, UT of Jammu and Kashmir. He is survived by his parents.
The mortal remains of the Braveheart were taken for the last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and remains committed to their dignity and wellbeing.
