Article 35A: All JK political parties on same page over the issue, says Akhtar

Minister for Works, Naeem Akhtar on Monday said that said that that all the political parties in the State are on the same page on the issue of safeguarding Article 35-A and any idea from any quarter is welcome.
“While responding to the query of the Reporter on the issue, I said that all the political parties in the State are on the same page on the issue of safeguarding Article 35-A and any idea from any quarter is welcome,” said Akhtar, who is also the state government spokesman.
Akhtar was rebutting the statement attributed to him by the local news gathering agency KNS regarding convening of the Special Session of the State Legislature to discuss Article 35-A, Akhtar said regrettably the news agency has grossly distorted his remarks on the issue.
“Unfortunately, the news agency instead of realistically reproducing my statement on the issue has construed on its own and represented it in a completely distorted and twisted manner,” he said and added that such deliberate distortions ironically only end up in denting the credibility of the sources of news.
Earlier, local news has reported that the commitments made with the state by the Centre from time to time will be “respected and maintain”.
“All the ideas are welcome,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by the agency.
“This (Article 35A) is a joint issue and an existential issue for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. And, fortunately, all the parties are on board. So there is no difference e of opinion on how to approach it. The Chief Minister has consulted with opposition and will continue to do so,” Akhtar had told the news agency.
Opposition parties including National Conference, Congress, Independent legislators, M Y Tarigami and Hakim Yaseen have sought convening of special session of the state legislature to discuss the “crucial issue” of Article 35A.
In a joint statement on Sunday, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami and PDF chairman and MLA Khan Sahib Hakim Muhammad Yaseen said, “The conspiracy to scrap Article 35A is essentially the agenda of communal, divisive and anti-democratic forces who want to thrive on uncertainty, hatred and turmoil. The state government should take the case very seriously, contend it in the Supreme Court vigorously and should not depend on hollow assurances given by the Centre.”
PCC president G A Mir said Legislature is the best forum to debate the issue of Article 35A.
