Srinagar: In order to raise awareness about single use of plastic and inform students about renewable sources of energy, a set of competitions were organized at Army Goodwill School, Hanzik on 27 Feb 2020, within the school premises.A total of 520 students participated in the competitions that saw students prepare Paper Bags, Charts depicting renewable sources of energy and present their views in the form of extempore. The students were made aware of the modern technologies being incorporated into recycling of plastic such as road construction, manufacture of textiles and filaments that can be used for 3-D printing.The students were also educated about the advantages of energy generation from renewable resources such as wind, solar and geo-thermal, that have a huge potential in India. The students were encouraged to think and develop new technologies that could help conserve the environment while also meet the energy demand of the country. The faculty and students appreciated the initiative and took an oath to avoid/stop usage of single use plastic in the country, while also discouraging their family members to do the same. The event is part of a multi-pronged government initiative to increase awareness about environmental conversation and sustainable development.
