Barbaric Act

October 31, 2023 |

The killing of a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh in Pulwama district on Monday, October 30, is a dastardly act which should be condemned by all. These incidents serve as a grim reminder of the tensions that continue to simmer in the region, driven by Pakistan's desperation to maintain instability. Migrant workers from various parts of India have often been targeted by extremist groups in Kashmir. These workers, who come to the region seeking employment opportunities, are soft targets for those trying to stoke the flames of conflict. In recent years, there have been reports of gruesome attacks on these laborers, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction. These attacks are not only tragic for the victims and their families but also detrimental to the region's socio-economic stability. The perpetrators of these attacks are often militant outfits with links to Pakistan. These groups view the targeting of civilians and migrant workers as a means to keep the Kashmir issue alive on the global stage. By inflicting harm on innocent people, they aim to draw international attention and provoke India into a retaliatory response. This approach plays into Pakistan's broader strategy of maintaining a state of perpetual conflict in Kashmir. Pakistan's desperation to keep the pot boiling in the region can be traced back to its historical and strategic interests in Kashmir. The union territory holds immense symbolic value, and Pakistan's security establishment has long sought to internationalize the issue. By fomenting violence and portraying India as an aggressor, Pakistan attempts to gain sympathy on the global stage and put pressure on India to come to the negotiating table. Furthermore, Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies have been accused of providing support to various militant groups operating in Kashmir. These groups, often labeled as "non-state actors," are believed to receive training, funding, and logistical support from elements within Pakistan. Such involvement enables Pakistan to maintain a level of plausible deniability while pursuing its strategic goals in the region. The violence against migrant workers and civilians in Kashmir serves another purpose for Pakistan – it diverts attention from its own internal issues. Pakistan grapples with numerous challenges, including economic instability, political turbulence, and militancy within its borders. By keeping Kashmir in the spotlight, Pakistan can divert public attention from these pressing domestic problems. The international community must remain vigilant about the situation in Kashmir. The ongoing violence against civilians and migrant workers is a stark illustration of Pakistan's desperation to maintain instability in the region with the blood of innocent lives. The world needs to wake up to this barbarism.
