In a remarkable feat, A.R. Bhat and Yasir Makhdoomi, members of the Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (JKMBA), completed a 365 km cycling expedition within a single day. The duo embarked on their journey at 2:55 AM on August 24th from Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, and concluded it at Makhdoom Sahib after 18 hours and 37 minutes of relentless cycling.
Their route included several laps around Dal Lake for the initial 100 km, followed by a ride towards Ganderbal, a loop back through Sumbal road to Srinagar, and an extension to Qazigund before returning to Srinagar. The entire journey was tracked and recorded by a Garmin Fenix 7.
This incredible accomplishment surpasses the previous JKMBA record of 355 km, set by Sajad and Irfan just 14 days earlier. Both Bhat, who is the Chief General Manager at JAMKASH Vehicleades Kashmir Pvt Ltd, and Makhdoomi, who works at J&K Bank's Islamia College Branch, are senior members of JKMBA.
"Completing 365 km in August was particularly challenging due to the shorter days and limited opportunities for long-distance rides. However, our consistent training made it possible, and I am thankful to Almighty Allah for a safe completion," shared A.R. Bhat. Makhdoomi added, "My recent training, which included a 300 km ride last month and swimming, significantly improved my endurance and stamina. We owe a great deal to our families and the unwavering support from our fellow members like Nazir Ahmad, Riyaz Wani, and Zahid Iqbal."
JKMBA President Riyaz Wani and Secretary Asif Bhat commended the riders for their dedication, noting the tremendous patience and perseverance required for such a challenge.
This milestone not only adds to the legacy of JKMBA but also sets a new standard for cycling enthusiasts across the region.
