Braid cutting: Police doubles reward to Rs 6 lac

Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday doubled up the cash reward for credible information to nab people behind braid incidents.
A helpline has also been established so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident.”
An official said that cash reward of six lakh rupees would be given to those with credible information on braid chopping.
“The reward for giving information/assistance in nabbing any person found involved in braid cutting has been doubled to rupees six lakh. The name and particulars of that person/persons will be kept secret,” a police handout said.
The helplines, it said, have already been established in every district of the valley.
General public is again advised to call police on helpline numbers if they find any suspicious person/movement in their areas, it said.
Meanwhile, continuing incidents of hair chopping have triggered protests and panic among the residents of Kashmir valley as government seem clueless about the culprits and except announcing helplines and cash reward nothing has been done so far.
Chopping incidents have also reached the capital Srinagar and today people in Nowgam area on the city outskirts staged a massive protest against failed bid to cut hair of a local girl by unidentified persons.
Local residents took to streets and staged anti-government and anti-police protests. The residents accused government of complete failure in curbing incidents of braid chopping. The womenfolk of the area blocked Main Road and staged protests.
