With the Jammu and Kashmir Government announcing perks in all the sectors, Heath sector in the State is witnessing diminishing trend. Our primary healthcare centres are witnessing highly charged loot by the drug mafia. Ironically, a newborn at LD hospital was thrown to dogs and this trend is picking up in Kahsmir where, Kashmir’s unwanted babies, abondoned by their parents is seen happening in all the hospitals. Government Dental College, Srinagar is ailing with administrative failures, courtsey it’s inefficient authorities. The students and doctors working in the the college have been complaining about the administration failures. The college is headed by a Principal, who, according to media reports has many enquires pending. The administrative system in the college has gone to dogs.Today the, students while accusing college authorities of failing to solve their issues dozens of Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS) students Fridayprotested at Government Dental College, Shereen Bagh, Srinagar against many long-pending academic, hostel issues. Wearing aprons, the students gathered in the premises of the institute under the banner of Dental College Students Union and said that they appealed the college authorities a number of times but they have turned deaf ears towards their pleas. A group of students who are currently residing in a hostel at Bemina, opposite Tatoo ground said they have face “erratic power supply” thereby affecting their academics. Usually, for a BDS degree, they said takes five years, which includes 4 years of study followed by one year of internship but due to unscheduled delay “It takes us seven years because of the official apathy thus putting our career at stake.” The agitated students said that the college which claims of pioneering the institute in the field of Dentistry education also lacks a “student grievance cell” without which they were not able to highlight their genuine issues. Accusing the accused the college administration of shutting the college library before 3 pm on daily basis they said: “Sometimes the college employees close the library before that and ask us to leave. There is a shortage of important books for dental surgery in the library forcing the students to buy the expensive books from the markets on exuberant rates. The college is also not engaging the students in co-curricular activities and it lacks sports infrastructure which is part and parcel of academics. The students are being denied from the special tours as the students enjoy outside the state. After September 2014 floods, the institute suffered damage and till now the equipment’s and instrument have not been made available.
