Amid Mayor elections, a high voltage darma is being witnessed at Srinagar Municipal Corporation as protest erupted after Deputy Mayor of the corporation alleged thrashing by Police, while the five councilors were dragged out from the voting hall on Wednesday.
Deputy Mayor, Parvaiz Qadri said, alleged that he was beaten up by Police and said that the election for the post of Mayor is being conducted without his consent.
"Commissioner and Secretary have issued the notification without my consent which is a gross violation of Municipal Act 2000."
"This being done by the duo to elect a mayor of their choice," he said.
"I was beaten along with my other councillors, we were dragged out from the voting hall, this is not any election but a selective process of which we are totally against," he added.
Meanwhile, Former Deputy Mayor Shiekh Mohammed Imran, who is in the fray and contesting the polls, is protesting along with the incumbent Deputy Mayor and other councillors outside the office of SMC, demanding haltage of the election. (KDC)
