There was a time and culture particularly in central and south Asian countries where a person called a "Maulana" or "Molvi" was the word of honour, refers to a person who was qualified religious scholar and was respected erstwhile. It was considered a blessing or Rehma to associate oneself with any such kind of a person. He was respected, honored and reverently addressed profession in entire sub continental Islamic history. Instead of identifying the conspiracies and provoke the conflict, they engage themselves and the masses to self introspection. Work on the Isamisation of the world, they try to include the others in circle rather than exclusion of own. Delegitimize social distinctions between class and races, transcended geographical and temporal boundaries and achieved unity among divergent people Removing their own weakness and move ahead. Evade conflict, Contemplating more, seldom issuing Futwas , Present the Islam in expansion and inclusive for all . Most of the accountability Lies at the doorsteps of these Ulamas .This was not a fanatical and radical era rather a realistic era.
Ironically then it was the matter of time , the term made a paradigm shift, from respected term to a derogatory one, from a qualified scholar to rubble-rouser , from esteemed Maulana to self made Mullah. The former was subjected to educate and enhance the moral of masses, but the later move away from real essence and ethics. The former was subjected to unify people but later subjected to divide and promote their own sects. Former represent Islam , later represent a set of self made ideology what they locally called " Fikir" or literally a sect. The germs of conflict embedded In a Ummah retrogressed the growth .Despite the notion of unifying and consolidated community differences arose within the Muslim community. In stages and religious seminaries, Ignorance, prejudice and fanaticism take the throne. The usage of term Takfeer become so common and cheap that a primary fail person can issue a Futwa of Kufur to other in a straight talk. Thus gave a birth to a curse, malady, and morbidity in Ummati Muslimah what came to be known as sectarianism.
Sectarianism is a conflict where prejudice, discrimination or hatred arise, depending on status quo and one group claims holds more authentication than the other. Sectarianism has been more commonly defined as the existence within the locality of two or more divided and actively competing communal identities, resulting in a strong sense of dualism. Oxford dictionary defines sectarianism as “excessive attachment to a particular sect or party.
In Kashmir however, if we talk in particular the sectarian conflict has always been on a boiling cauldron fueled and fired up by the emotions of people. The Mullahs and preachers on a holy pulpit call Islam a religion of peace and dilate on its inclusive character , but are sectarian not only in Outlook but also in their dealings. Their thinking is reactionary always react negatively and unfavorably. Everyone is possessive of its identity and exclusion of the other. For their mere vested interests they engage themselves in a fiery speeches , angry rhetoric’s and inflammatory statements They are ballooning sectarianism day in and day out merely and symptomatic scramble for the identity, and top down the Islamisation project.
Sectarianism over the years in Kashmir has become complicated and escalated. Most preachers suffer a syndrome of defining their sect rather than Islam. Transcends the courtesy, hate speeches, derogatory remarks even abuses is what made the different social media platforms overflow. Vulnerability and rude extended beyond the doctrinal conflict. Established in the name of Islam Maddrasa's and Darul Ulooms across Jammu and Kashmir , taught their students religion less, they manipulate them in accordance with their sectarian beliefs and agenda of donations. They spent less time in spreading spirituality and more on sectarian hatred, less on creating recognized scholar more on glibber Molvi. These sectarian escalators are progressing in number and are being displayed on streets, markets, mosques and on different social media platforms. They are modifying the scene so well that every sect seems engaged in a turf war. Fighting on a blind and pity questions, promoting and cultivating their own brand of Islam. Sectarianism hallows the real essence Ummah. Society has to rise against these fringe elements.

What should be Done


According to a Hadith in Musnad of Ahmad , Abdullah ibn Masood says that the prophet (S.A.W) related that evil cannot be wiped out through evil , rather evil can be wiped out through good. In other terms you cannot be bad for a bad , and worse for worse this formula can make world a living hell. One should be bold enough to replace bad with good. The only way leading forward to cement the unity and burn down the sectarianism is Ulamas in particular and common people generally must agree to indulge in a broader perspective of Islam and their own introspection, consider themselves less than others. In a time when everyone thinks he is superior than the other unity is out of question.
In a historical context, it was during sixth year of Hijra when the Prophet (SAW) along with 1400 Sahabah arrived in Hudaybiya on the outskirts of Makkah ,when the treaty of Hudaibiyah between Muslim and Quraishi's was being written down, the prophet told the person who was being penning down the document " write this is what Muhammad, the Prophet of God has decided" but the representative from pagans of Quraish protested against this , insisting that write simply Muhammad ibn Abdullah not the prophet of God, because Quraish did not accept Muhammad as the prophet of God . History witnessed that Prophet (SAW) told the man who was writing the document to mention him simply as Muhammad ibn Abdullah. (This is how the historian Ibn Hisham describe this events).
the crux of the treaty was that , despite all kinds of provocations from opponents , Muslims unilaterally abstain from reacting and Avoid confrontation. Also the prophet (S.A.W) didn't make it an issue of ego or right verses wrong. Had the prophet made the matter into a question of right verses wrong, he would never have accepted the demand and this historic treaty to which Qur'an in Surah Fatah referred it as a victory " a clear victory, what a victory is this". It appeared to be a capitulation before the opponents of Muslims but, in fact , it gave Muslims an opportunity to consolidate their position in Makkah.
