A local court has rejected the bail application of two accused persons who had duped people by running a fake travel agency and cheating Hajj aspirants for booking their travel to holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
While hearing the bail application, the Additional Munsif Judge Srinagar Abdul Bari, said that he accused persons through their travel services have brazenly cheated public at large and have hurt the religious sentiments of the people.
“The accused persons have committed a very serious unethical and anti-religious act besides being punishable by the law of the land. The court finds merit in the bail application and hence it is dismissed,” the judge said after hearing both prosecution and defense counsels.
According to KNS correspondent, two persons, Dawood Ahmad Azad son of Humayoun Azad resident of Kursoo Rajbagh and Shabbar Khoja son of Hassan Ali Khoja resident of Dongri Mumbai (proprietor of Al-Huda Travels Mumbai) who were operating in Srinagar on behalf of Indo Sahab Tour & Travel Services, were arrested by police’s Tourist wing last week.
Police had booked them in FIR No 6 under section 420,511 RPC 2/28-32, 36 (2) Tourist Trade Act RW section 2(g) TT Act.
Police had in its investigation found several persons of the family involved in the cheating, saying that Fabian Gilkar alias Dr Khalid is the main kingpin in the network.
The travel agency had advertised in the local media about taking Haj aspirants to Hajj. They had till now cheated a number of people and duped them of the money.
The police said that their travel agency is fake and has not been given any Hajj quota by the Government of India.
Earlier, police had this year appealed the people not to fall into trap of the fake travel agencies and verify from the police before applying through any travel agency. (KNS)
