After restoration of postpaid cell phones, users across Kashmir found that they have been billed for the 72 days of blockade and in many cases, the outgoing facility has been blocked as the bills had not been paid. Making the payment was a further hurdle, as the internet facility is yet to be restored.
The communication blackout started on August 5 after the centre scrapped the special status granted to the state under the constitution's Article 370 and divided it into two union territories.
The recharge packs credited by the subscribers to their phones have also ''exhausted'' even though nobody ever used them during the clampdown period.
To add to the woes of their subscribers, SMS services and internet facilities continue to remain suspended even on the post paid mobile phones. The worse part of the callousness of the service provider is that no vendor is able to accept rent or recharge packs in the Valley as their internet connections are also not working.
Due to lack of regulation, service providers are looting users at will and nobody from the government is interested in giving respite to the users. “It is a cyber loot facilitated by the people at the helm of affairs,” said an angry user to KNT.
