DC Rajouri discusses road safety plan at DRSC meeting

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan on Friday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to discuss the formulation and implementation of traffic management plan in the district.

The meeting held detailed discussion on the formulation of district road safety plan for the year 2021-22, identification of black spots, installation of crash barriers, organisation of road safety awareness camps, medical camps, availability of ambulances on NHW, dumping of construction materials on roadsides, erection of speed breakers on the roads passing near schools etc.
The Executive Engineer of PMGSY informed the meeting that dumping of construction materials on roads is also a cause of great concern which needs to be checked as it leads to road accidents.
The Chief Education Officer apprised that many schools in the district are very close to the roads and there is need for raising speed breakers for the safety of the students.
The Deputy Commissioner said that collective efforts are required to minimize the road accidents. He urged the concerned officers to ensure close interdepartmental coordination for implementing road safety measures including quick shifting of the accident victims.
He said that Police and Revenue Departments are the first informers in case of any mishap on the road and directed the concerned officers to stay more vigilant during any road accident and ensure timely flow of information in this regard so that the precious human lives can be saved.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the concerned officer to ensure that 108 Ambulance is always in a state of readiness to meet out any eventuality and directed for making random calls to 108 number to ensure that the service is available 24/7 for the general public.
He directed the PWD and PMGSY Engineers to ensure proper maintenance of the roads to avoid road accidents. They were also asked to identify the black spots on the roads and take corrective measures in accident prone areas by fixing signboards and other precautionary measures.
Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officer from the Motor Vehicle Department to organise special road safety awareness camps and generate awareness among the masses about the road safety parameters and motivate them to follow the golden rules of traffic.
It was also decided that special training sessions would be conducted for the police officials to impart awareness regarding RADMPS application.
The concerned officers from the GREF, Traffic and MVD were directed to raise speed breakers on the roads passing near Schools. Regarding the issue of dumping the construction materials on the roadsides, the DC asked the concerned officer from PMGSY to take concrete measures in this regard and make sure that no construction material is dumped on the road.
Similarly, the concerned officers were directed to conduct a regular checking of the trolleys to ensure that they are used for agriculture operations and not for commercial purpose.
