Def Min slams Mamata for dragging Army into political controversy

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has written a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressing his pain over the manner she created a political controversy surrounding Army exercise in her state and other parts of the command. In a letter dated December 8, which was accessed by UNI, Mr Parrikar said the controversy was totally avoidable.”Your allegation in this regard run the risk of impacting the morale of country’s armed forces and the same is not expected from a person of your standing and experience in public life,” he said. Mr Parrikar’s letter to the Chief Minister comes days after she attacked the Centre for deploying the Army in the state without taking her government into confidence, an allegation countered by the Indian Army. He observed that he was deeply pained by the allegation she levelled against the  Army as it is the most disciplined institution in the country.
