Demonetisation surgical strike against people, alleges Meem Afzal

Upping the ante at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over demonetisation, All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Meem Afzal alleged the move was a surgical strike against the common people and not meant to curb black money.

Meanwhile, asserting that Article 370 is a bridge between India and Jammu and Kashmir, he said nobody can erode this act.

Lashing out at the PM, Mr Afzal said instead of creating more jobs as promised, the demonetisation move has rendered labour class, small business holders, farmers, shopkeepers and others jobless.

“Modi led government had claimed to provide 2.5 lakh jobs to the unemployed youth in the country in a year but in two years, the current regime has rendered at least 10 lakh people jobless. Labour class, farmers, small business holders, shopkeepers and others have been rendered jobless due to demonetization,” he told reporters in a press conference here today.

Mr Afzal alleged the people have been forced to leave their work and stand in long queues to get their own money.

He further accused the center of making no arrangements before announcing demonetization.

“The government is accountable to the people of this country and it has to answer where it is taking the country. A huge amount has been deposited by the BJP ministers in the bank accounts even after demonetization,” he alleged.

Alleging that the government is silent over the issue of black money of its ministries, he asked why is centre delaying to order an inquiry in this regards.

Meanwhile, asserting that Article 370 is a bridge between India and Jammu and Kashmir, he said nobody can erode this act.

Neither center nor the state government can erode Article 370, he said the Congress part stands for preservation of the act.

Opposing issuance domicile certificates to West Pakistan Refugees (WPR), he said the government should initiate talks will all political parties to decide this issue.

However, he said that certification to WPR is a human issue and should be dealt with sincerely.
