Reviews implementation of “Khelo India” programme

Deputy CommissionernDr G N Itoo today said that development of sports infrastructure in the district is among top priorities of the district administration.

He termed infrastructural development as a prerequisite for promoting sports culture and attitude in the society.

The DC was chairing a meeting review the sports activities being held in the district under the centrally sponsored ‘Khelo India’ sports initiative.

He said that Baramulla has huge potential in sports arena due to abundance of talented sportspersons and the need of the hour is to channelize it in a positive direction. He impressed upon the officers to encourage the youth to participate in sports activities for their better mind and body. He also termed sports as a best way to stay away from the menace of drugs.

Dr Itoo impressed for community involvement in promoting the sports culture at grass root level. He also directed to establish fitness centres in educational institutions so that students can develop a good physique for a healthy life.

Meanwhile, it was informed that various sports activities under this flagship programme were conducted at different levels in which a number of young and aspiring enthusiasts participated.

Meanwhile, DC directed the concerned officers to prepare a plan for implementation of 'Sports for Peace & Development', a vertical scheme of Khelo India in order to achieve the objective of the scheme.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ahsan Mir, CEO, ACD,CPO, DYSS officer, NYK Coordinator and others concerned attended the meeting.
