Says the family was trying to “extort” money from the hospital

A day after a family from Pulwama accused doctors at Classical Hospital of medical negligence, the hospital today admitted that they removed the uterus of the patient while she was admitted for removal of gallbladder.
The Classic Hospital, located at Hyderpora in Srinagar, said that the family was trying to “extort” money from the hospital after it removed the uterus of the patient.
“The patient was operated for removal of GB last month. During the surgery due to development of some complications the team of doctors available there to the best of their abilities and capabilities took the decision of removing the uterus to save the life of the patient,” the statement said.
It said that the hospital was put under “pressure from various agencies and demanding hefty sum”.
The hospital administration said that the family is trying to malign and defame the image of the hospital.
The family of the woman from Pulwama said that doctors in the hospital removed her uterus and demanded action against the hospital.
According to the woman's family, she was diagnosed with the presence of a 6mm polyp on her gall bladder and advised to undergo a surgery in June.
The family also claimed that when confronted the Classic hospital management first refused to take responsibility and later pleaded for a "compromise".
"We have been devastated by this hospital and the doctor who operated on her. We have lost hopes of becoming parents now" the husband of the lady said.
The USG report on the basis of which hospital has done the surgery (in possession of this news agency) shows a 6 MM polyp on the gallbladder of the patient.
Medical experts say there is not any indication of any surgery as per this report even not for GB.
“To remove gallbladder the polyp size should be over 12MM. Surgery for a 6mm polyp is very rare”, said a doctor.
The family of the patient alleges that the classic hospital advised them to go for urgent surgery for gallbladder removal as well as for swelling on uterus saying the patient has cysts on ovary (as evidence they have screenshots of WhatsApp conversation with doctor in this regard).
“Being unfortunate, illiterate and unaware we straightway decided to go as per their advice. Ask the hospital and doctor if they have seen the patient or done any investigations before the surgery”, brother said.
Based on a USG forwarded to hospital through whatsapp these surgeries were conducted, he said.
He said “It is very strange the hospital is contesting the age of patient. Does 30 years or having a child qualify her to get uterus removed. This shows how insensitive the administration of the hospital is.”
