February 14, 2020 | BK NEWS SERVICE/SRINAGAR

Construction of drainage system at Shalteng -HMT roadside goes on with snail’s pace which has subjected commuters and locals to inconvenience.
A group of people said that work was started last year by Srinagar Municipal Corporation from Shaltang bypass to Lawaypora within the limits of SMC but after passing of more than nine months they are yet to complete one kilometer.
They said, the work on the project is being carried with slow pace that is against the public demand.
Shopkeepers and other business ventures at Mustafa-abad, HMT, Omar-abad and other areas have raised their serious concerns over the slow pace of work.
Ghulam Hassan a shopkeeper at Omarabad said the dust emanating at the construction site is irking customers as local people.
“Our business has totally affected from last five months as there is construction work of drain going on a roadside,
“We are not satisfied with the pace of work. Actually, we have already asked authorities to expedite work and complete it in a shortest possible time, he said.
Hassan said there should be double shift of the work to ensure that this project will be completed at the earliest. Its sloppy execution has caused immense hardships to locals and commuters,” he said.
Another resident Mohammad Yousuf said they fear the project would not be completed on time and due to this water logging can take place in every lane.
“Our demand from day one is that authorities must work on this project on double shift as is done in Jammu Srinagar highway. Eight hours work on this big project is not enough to complete it at earliest,” he said.
An official at SMC said that the two kilometer drain from Shaltang by-pass to Lawaypora is a big project and needs time. He said for better drainage people have the bear the losses until the work would be completed.
