Drugs is bigger threat than terrorism: Jammu and Kashmir police chief

 Drugs is bigger threat than terrorism, we are waging a war against it and we seek people’s cooperation in eradicating it from the state. This was stated by Director General of Police, Dr S.P Vaid while interacting with the civil society at Kishtwar and Doda during his visit to the twin districts of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban, Range.
During his visit to Kishtwar and Doda, DGP was accompanied by IGP Jammu Shri S.D Singh Jamwal and was received by SSP Kishtwar Shri Abrar Chowdhary and other Police officers of the District. The DGP interacted with the meritorious students of the district Kishtwar besides chaired a Darbar of Jawans and officers at DPL. DGP also interacted with the civil society and assured assistance in solving problem of the people of hilly areas.
At Doda, the DGP Dr. Vaid was received by Sh Basant Kumar Rath IPS  DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, SSP Doda Sh Mohammad Shabir, Commandant IR 5thBn Sh Mohammad Arif Rishu and other senior Police officers.
During the visit, Dr. Vaid inaugurated Model Police Station and DIG office cum residence.  The DGP chaired a police Dabar at DPL and also interacted with civil society.
While chairing darbar of Jawans the DGP heard police personnel patiently and assured them that their genuine problems would be looked into on priority. He said that welfare of jawans has always been priority and added that more welfare schemes have been introduced to benefit the jawans and for their families in recent times.  He said that a major scheme of housing for construction of 5000 quarters at Srinagar and Jammu has been approved and ground work for the same has begun.  Lauding the work of SPOs, the DGP said SPOs have done a commendable job in fight against terrorism in Doda-Kishtwar and have helped in eradication of terrorism. He promised to review the genuine cases of SPOs for absorption in department. He impressed upon the policemen to be firm with the erring but polite with the people who seek their help.  He advised the policemen to take care of their health by taking balanced diet, yoga and other physical activities.
While highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse during his interaction with civil society at both the places, the DGP said that drugs is bigger threat than terrorism and added that Jammu and Kashmir police is waging a war against  it and sought the cooperation of the people in eradicating it from the state. While referring to the misuse of social media by certain individuals, the DGP asked policemen to identify such individuals and prevent the misuse by counseling them. While commending the people for maintenance of communal harmony and brotherhood in these districts, the DGP appealed to the people to continue their support in the same way in future as well.
