Educational institutions remain closed as precautionary measure in Kashmir

All educational institutions remained closed and examinations were postponed on Thursday in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike against the death of four youths in security force action on demonstrators near an encounter site at Kulgam.
A soldier was martyred and two others were injured in the encounter at Khudwani Kulgam on Wednesday while militants holed up for about 20 hours managed to escape.
Officials said that all educational institutions, including schools, will remain closed in the valley as a precautionary measure following massive protests in majority Government Degree Colleges (GDC), Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) and universities.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, have called for a general strike.
The District Administration of almost all districts have issued separate orders closing the educational institutions.
The Kashmir University (KU), Islamic University of Science and Technology, Central University Kashmir (CUK) and Cluster University had also announced suspension of all class work and postponed examinations, which were scheduled to be held today.
