Jammu and Kashmir is celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, commemorating the sacrifice offered by prophet Abraham today. However, like last year, there would be no large gathering of people, this time due to lockdown over covid-19 pandemic. The authorities have already announced that congregations prayers will not be allowed at any place across the Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile,Eid ul-Azha (Eid ul-Azha) is observed on the tenth day of the twelfth and the last Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah. The date of celebrating the festival is determined after sighting the crescent moon on second last or the last day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhu al-Qadah.
This year, Saudi Arabia announced July 31 as the date of Eid al-Azha. But in India, the moon was not sighted on the evening of July 21. Therefore, the festival of Eid al-Azha will be celebrated a day later, on August 1, 2020. However, in Kerala, the moon was sighted on July 21, and thus, the state will observe Bakrid on July 31.
The festival is also referred to as Eid Qurban or Qurban Bayarami. Muslims sacrifice a goat or ship and divide the meat into three equal portions. They keep one for themselves while they give the other two away to relatives and the needy. Therefore, Bakra Eid is revered as the festival of sacrifice.
On this day, Muslims gather with their family and friends to celebrate the day. Amid of Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
