Eight e-Buses plying on Srinagar routes lying defunct

April 25, 2024 | BK News Service

At least eight green electric buses of JKRTC plying on different routes of Srinagar have been lying defunct for months in workshops, impacting the revenue collection of the transport department besides adding to the woes of commuters.
Reliable sources said that close to eight green e-buses, which ply on multiple routes of the city, have been gathering dust in workshops after being shifted there to repair multiple issues developed in the vehicles.
“Among the eight buses, three to four buses were taken to the workshop around eight months ago for its repair and the rest of the vehicles were moved there three months but to date not a single one has been fixed,” they said.
They further said that the defunct vehicles are not beyond repair and should have been running on the roads till now.
A loss has been incurred by the transport department in terms of revenue collection after eight of the e-buses remained inoperative. “Besides creating a loss of revenue to the transport department, the commuters too have been suffering in the absence of these vehicles,” sources said.
It was learnt that the washers of the JKRTC have been slacking by not properly taking care of the buses and their washing, which apparently aggravates issues in the vehicles.
