Poetry, is a beautiful art in which the poet gives life to the lifeless things with great precision and care. Since ages poets have rendered a great service to this art by writing poetry on diverse subjects like love, wars ,beauty, death ,friendship and what not. But to write a good poetry is a great art and is indispensable service to the society. A good poetry is always enchanting and is evergreen without any fear or favour. It blessing and pleasing, considered an agent of strong change as well as revolution. History is testimony to this fact that good poetry has always awakened society from deep slumber.
A good poetry is full of pleasure and excitement and catches the heart and soul of reader. It is a rich cultural heritage of any nation. Such kind of poetic creation is treasure for that very society as it defines their culture , religion, economy., ethical set up, faith , belief, history and political aspect. hus a good poetry is reflection of that society for which it has been crafted like CHUCER for English nation, and Kalidas, Tulsidas and Alama Iqbal for east. Good poetry is life line of society as it highlights the crisis into which any society is plunged . The chief aim of a good poetry should not only be to raise questions and highlight the crisis but it must also try to provide solutions to the problems with which a society is grappling with, otherwise it is only agent of pointing out things without arriving to any agreement. It must highlight the evils plaguing the society but without splintering it into various segments. The approach of a good poet in writing a poetry should be moderate so that violence in any form is not incited .It must bridge the gaps between different sections of a society thus construct paths not to obstruct them. To achieve such excellence a poet must always consider himself the member of a family and treat society as family itself .Society always accepts the work of poets and on parallel lines has always appreciated it without any doubt .Therefore it is imperative that the chief aim of a poet is to make efforts to bring positivity in social arena by crafting poetic work which has a positive impact on the lives of people living in society.
Good poetry, must be equally pleasing and in proper length with best choice of words having nice rhyme, lyric and intonation, in other words it must follow the basic rules of poetry such that it appears magnificent in utterance of words both in writing , speaking and listening. There must also be economy of words that is poetic work must be in equilibrium , because by composing poetry this way readers feel enjoyed while the message is absorbed in decent way without feeling bored or stressed . This has a long lasting impact on the brains of readers and such work is never neglected by common folk.Hence it can be stated that good poetry is pleases the reader and motivates him internally , unleashes his mental energy to digest the underlying theme rather objective of poets artistic creation. Besides, good poetry must have socially relevant , it must not philosophize the things that is beyond the normal range of humans and appears abstract and distant from lives of a common man. It must provide complicated things in simple manner or else it can be stated that a good poetry should work as panacea of all ills , it should have the capacity to bloom the flower of spirit in human brains and reduce the chaos and confusion which has chained the human mind .Good poetic work , must have the capacity to unfold the intellectual energy among readers so that it can be utilized for general good of masses , thus good poetry has the quality to stimulate the intellectual traits of a reader which in future could become fruitful for society.
Emotions are closely attached with actions of a normal person, so a good poetry should stimulate emotions in a positive manner such that they are not robbed for petty gains or utilized in wrong way like giving birth to social evils viz communal thinking, regionalism, sectarian conflicts, religious intolerance , caste conflicts etc. Good poetry also must have the ingredients of weaving social fabric closely without any gap , in other words a good poetry should sow the seeds of cooperation, brotherhood, and integrity .This will help in mitigating social crisis and end violence in any form, thus a poetry having such elements can play a vital role in developing a society where there is no place for such actions and thinking. So it can be clearly stated that a good poetry has the potential of uprooting social bigots and dogma which has posed a constant threat to unity and integration of a society. Good poetry must analyze the society in general and bring out positive and negative elements so that a society can progress by comparing itself with developed ones, otherwise a society without any self observation becomes complacent and therefore is considered a stagnant one which ultimately plunges into dark ages, here poetry can play a crucial role in comparing and contrasting a society with those which are advancing by leaps and bounds.A good poetry constantly motivates the readers to work for advancement of ones nation in every aspect whether science, economy or politics. Hence a good poetry becomes an oxygen for society without which it cannot think of progress and advancement.
A good poetry ,must also teach ethics in a romantic way so that while progressing in any form ,a nation is not losing the grip on basic moral and ethical components, that is such kind of poetry should take care of morals as well otherwise it is sidelining the chief characteristic feature of a society . So a poetry inculcating ethical component can refine the society and can prepare an individual in such a way so that it becomes socially relevant. More over a good poetry must have a romantic flavor so that it can depict the problems linked with emotions of a person and discuss emphatically the passion and melancholistic behavior of a lover as well as his beloved, this could clarify the difference between true spiritual relation from lust . This kind of poetry can easily make to comphrend the meaning and evolution of spiritual love ,its progress and downfall. A good poetry should also be natural in its approach, it must describe nature with close range like mountains , water, air, soil, forests, wildlife, crops, sky , earth, sunlight, plants, and animals living in equilibrium and in ecological balance .This depiction of nature in poetry can bring a man close to the nature, and he can understand the fragile and tender relation between man and nature , its necessity in making this universe to run in a balanced way. This can also teach a man , his role in his environment in conservation of nature, and also his self dependency on nature. Though man is always refffered to as supreme species but due to his less need and more greed , the environment has lost its balance , and world is witnessing climate change, global warming , pollution, man- animal conflict, floods, etc. So a good poetry can have in the elements which can discuss nature and role of man in preservation of his environment. Therefore in other words we can say that a good poetry must teach nature through its lines , this can help in explicating that which is already implicit in nature, thus unfolding the secrets of nature to a common man so that he can redefine his role in his environment this could be the tremendous contribution of a good poetry in conserving the nature
After all a good poetry must focus on things which could be helpful for a common person to live at peace with nature, that is advancing in all aspects but without losing relation with nature compressively. It must shower the rain of love , faith and trust so that competition is replaced by cooperation, inequality by equality, intolerance by tolerance , greed by need etc.In addition the good poetry must have more positive note always than negativity and have practical approach , because more the poetry is describing practical issues more successful is it from the eye of a common person .In other words it must examine the practical life of a common man , this way poetry can become a strong tool to solve the complexities of life with which all people have been engaged since time immemorial.
