Encounters ensue at two places in south Kashmir

Encounters ensued between militants and security forces at two places in south Kashmir early Tuesday morning, official sources said.
Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Naubugh in Qazigund in Kulgam district of south valley. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants opened fire, they said.
Security forces also retaliated, ensuing an encounter, sources told UNI, adding that all exit points were sealed. Details are awaited.

Meanwhile yesterday two militants were killed, while a policeman was injured on Monday evening in a shootout in Handwara area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
DIG North Kashmir, VK Birdi said that two militants were killed after they lobbed a grenade and fired on a police naka party in Sultanpora, Zacheldara in Handwara today evening.
Birdi said that a policeman was injured in the militant attack.
“We have started investigation to ascertain the identity of the two militants,” he added.
