Hundreds of Kisan Tehreek activists across the region on Thursday assembled at Press, Enclave,Srinagar, held protest demonstration and took out a rally upto Ghanta Ghar Lal Choowk, chanted slogans against administration’s forcible land eviction of poor kisans in J&K.
While addressing the protestors Zahoor Ahmad Rather, General Secretary voiced deep concern over the administration’s move to deprive the people from land registered under various titles in revenue records across Jammu and Kashmir and said that eviction of farmers from the agricultural lands in their possessions for decades,even from 1890 is arbitrary, irrational and in violation of various existing laws and norms. The administration is blind towards the destruction of the livelihood of the rural poor. The administration is conducting false propaganda that the land is being acquired for development purposes but the facts are contrary to its claims.
Gh Mohamad Shah President said it is unfortunate that the administration has mobilized all its machinery to dispossess the poor from the land registered as Kahchairi, Shamilat and so on. The move is not only bound to render thousands of people roofless, but also evict them of cultivation rights.
He said that past governments always framed laws and norms to the benefits of landless, small and marginal farmers to grow more food but the present dispensation is hell bent to crush the poor people especially farmers.
Kisan Tehreek opposes this dictatorial order and demands putting an immediate halt on forcible land acquisition to save thousands of landless, small and marginal farmers from getting uprooted.
Others who addressed the demonstration include Mohamad Afzal Parry, Abdul Rashid Pandit,Fayaz Ahmad and Irfan Gull Kisan leaders.
