All victims hail from Kargil
Authorities said five persons including four members of a family and a driver were killed in a deadly road accident on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday
A senior police officer said the accident took place near Wanpoh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The officer said the victims hail from Pani Khar area of Kargil. Besides the driver, the accident claimed the lives of four members of a single family. The father and her three daughters are among the victims.
A police official said an Hyundai I-10 (JKO1X/6109) car carrying seven persons including the driver from Kargil was on its way to Jammu when a lorry (RG19 JD/8347) hit it near Wanpoh.
“Five persons including a baby and the driver died on spot while two persons suffered serious injuries and were shifted to hospital for advanced treatment,” the official said.
The officer identified the victims as Muhammad Abdullah and his three daughters Amina, Mansoora and Kaneez Fatima, all residents of Panikhar Kargil and the driver Muhammad Hussain of Turtuk Kargil.
The injured who are being treated in the hospital have been identified as Nargis Bano and Ghulam Hasan of Panikhar.
The police official said driver of the lorry has been arrested and a formal case stands lodged against him. He added that the lorry was also seized while the bodies of the victims have been sent to native place after completing medico-legal formalities.
