Srinagar Residents Bear the Brunt of Noisy Marriage Celebrations
Despite a ban by the Srinagar administration, the rampant use of firecrackers during marriage ceremonies has become a major nuisance in the city, disturbing the peace and causing distress to common citizens.
Locals from various areas, including Ilahi Bagh and Mehjoor Nagar, have complained about the widespread use of firecrackers during night hours, particularly during the ongoing marriage season. The loud explosions have severely affected the elderly, sick, and children, causing sleep disturbances and anxiety.
A recent video from Ilahi Bagh area showed massive firecrackers being set off upon the groom's arrival, leading to a brawl. Similarly, excited friends of a groom in Mehjoor Nagar disturbed the sleep of locals with relentless firecracker explosions.
Locals have expressed frustration over the authorities' inaction, despite repeated complaints. "The administration's ban has been reduced to mere paperwork," said a local resident said."We urge the authorities to enforce the ban strictly to ensure peace and tranquility in the city."
The Srinagar administration had earlier prohibited the use of firecrackers to minimize noise pollution and prevent disturbances. However, the lack of effective enforcement has emboldened revelers to flout the ban.
"Firecrackers have become a nightmare for us. We can't sleep due to the constant explosions. The authorities are turning a blind eye to this issue. It's time they take action,” said a local from the Hyderpora area of Srinagar uptown.
Concerned citizens have called for increased vigilance and stringent penalties to curb this menace. "The authorities must take concrete steps to address this issue, ensuring the well-being of residents, especially vulnerable populations," said a local activist.
