A Youth Mountaineering Expedition from Krishna Ghati Sector in Mendhar, comprising seven young girls and eight boys from the remote Sagra and Balnoi Villages, summited the challenging Friendship Peak (17,340 feet) in Himalayan ranges on 08 Jun 16. The expedition was felicitated by Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command at Udhampur today.
Selected trained and inspired to ‘Go where their dreams take them’, these young mountaineers, surmounted rigours of high altitude, bad weather and a challenging 37 km approach trek to hoist the National flag atop Friendship Peak on 08 Jun 16. The young students thereafter negotiated the surging rapids of the Beas River in a white-water rafting leg towards the end of their Triathlon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Army Commander congratulated young boys and girls and said that their success will inspire them to re-define their limits of endeavour and reach for the best in life with hard work and self-belief. He hoped that their example would inspire other young people in Jammu & Kashmir similarly. He presented the children with expedition mementos at an impressive ceremony to mark their achievement.
