Incessant rains put life out of gear in Kashmir province few days back when the rain goes unstoppable past 100 hours. Collateral damage including bridges, orchards, highways, govt/private were the major hit.Submergence scenes were witnessed across Kashmir valley particularly North Kashmir.
Continuous down pouring and spell of snowfall has further disrupting the normal life. Water logging across and there is an apprehension of landslides and shooting stones near low-lying areas. The continuous down pouring has led to economic losses, and most of irrigated land turned into sandy land due to flash floods. The commuters had to face tremendous hardships as the roads remained submerged in rain water.
Floods create havoc in most of villages at upper and displaced thousands of people. Its primary disruption is ecological balance and economic development. But whom we hold responsible? It is actually we people who have almost encroached every inch of land without assessing consequences of natural calamity. We have been such an arrogant the we didn't even plant a single tree, rather we approach and resort to cutting down of trees more and more. The consequences for agricultural include loss of seeds, damage to farmed land death and dispersion of livestocks. Massive floods and debris flows caused catastrophic damage to schools and its records. Teachers have become forefront to keep the school records in safer places.
How long shall we dwell in state of such miserable conditions when just two or three days of rain spell creats havoc and panic among the common masses. Those at the helm of affairs have done enough to build drainage and dewatering management, but our arrogance have made it filthy and blockade by putting our every leftouts in it. It has been observed that during floods hefty of non-degradable sewage have been accumulated in paddy fields, roads, streams and orchards.
The people suffered badly due to deluge and flood had a long time impact on environment, economy and the lives of the people. It has been learnt that flood affected schools have been temporarily attached to nearby schools due to deluge. The District Disaster Management should pass the directions to all the people how to adopt rescue measures. Before any natural calamity they must ensure the public that floods can't be stopped rather damage can be minimised by proper management measures. For planning any flood management measures like timely, reliable and accurate information is required.
In wake of natural calamity one should bear in mind that If flood is likely to hit your area you must either listen radio or television and even helpline numbers also being available on gadgets to face any eventuality. If there is possibility of flash floods move immediately to higher ground. Secure your home if you have time to bring outdoor furniture. Disconnect electrical appliances. Don't touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water. If you have to walk, walk where water is not moving, don't drive into flooded areas. In my opinion, the collateral as well as crop damage is the acts and overexploitation of human activities that laters ruthlessly ravages the flora and fauna. We must assess ourselves that fault lies within ourselves by encroaching and grapping the open lands, streams, paths in order to raise the flood apprehension. Positively insights can help to overcome and reduce natural calamity.
