Geelani Leads Sit-In Protest

Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday led the Sit-In protest from Hyderpora.The united resistance leadership has called for Sit-In protest program across Kashmir today.
A group of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) activists led by Syed Ali Geelani held a sit-in on the road outside its office in Hyderpora in uptown Srinagar.
A senior office said that after Zuhr Prayers, the group started to marching towards the road.
“The police personnel intercepted the march and we decide to hold the sit-in outside the main gate of the office,” he said.
The protestors held placards reading pro freedom slogans.
The united resistance leadership in its statement had stated: Occupy main roads and a two hour sit in after Zuhr Prayers 2 pm; blackout 8:00 to 9:00 pm; Taranas(freedom songs) on Masjid loudspeakers.
Meanwhile,Mirwaiz and his supporters were carrying placards stating “stop state terrorism” and “stop killing Kashmiris.”Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday staged a sit-in outside his Nageen residence here.

On the occasion Mirwaiz asked the United Nations to intervene and get the UN resolutions implemented in Jammu and Kashmir so that Kashmiris get their birth right. “If UN cannot play a pro-active role it should close its offices,” Mirwaiz added.
