National Conference Provincial President Adv Rattan Lal Gupta today stressed the need for ensuring economic emancipation and political empowerment of the weaker sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir, sating the marginalised segments of deserve priority attention in mitigating their legitimate grievances.
Addressing functionaries and prominent workers of the NC OBC Cell at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here this afternoon, Adv Gupta also favored for sympathetic consideration by the government streamlining the process of issuing category certificates, making it one-time and raising the slab criteria of creamy layer.
“The BJP has been ignoring the legitimate demands of the OBCs, which will be resisted tooth and nail”, he said, adding that the marginalised population should not be subjected to political expediencies.
Addressing the gathering Co Chairman OBC Cell Mr Abdul Gani Teli lashed out at the administration for neglecting the aspirations of the unemployed youth and weaker sections of the society and said perpetual delays in releasing timely wages to different categories of workers besides failure to provide financial assistance to categorized segments of the population had resulted in unimaginable miseries and an overall atmosphere of vulnerability and penury. He also demanded implementation of 27 per cent quota as has been adopted in several other states of the country.
The Co- Chairperson sought nomination of members of OBC communities in various District Development Boards/ Corporations and expressed concern over fund starvation for the welfare schemes of OBCs in the SC/ ST / OBC Development Financial Corporation, saying this has retarded the momentum of welfare initiatives.
He enumerated the measures initiated during the previous government led by Mr Omar Abdullah in ameliorating the lot of OBC sections among others and castigated the present dispensation for putting all these initiatives in backburner.
On the occasion the speakers raised several issues and problems of the weaker sections, particularly OBCs.
Responding to the issues raised by weaker sections, the Provincial President Mr Gupta said these will be taken up at appropriate level for early redressal.
