Heavy rains cause waterlogging in Srinagar

April 15, 2024 | BK News Service

Persistent heavy rainfall has resulted in severe waterlogging in various parts of Srinagar, disrupting daily activities and causing inconvenience to the residents and commuters. The intense downpour, which started late last night and continued into the morning, has overwhelmed the city's drainage system, leading to inundated streets and neighborhoods.
The most affected areas include Lal Chowk, Rajbagh, and parts of the Old City, where water levels have risen significantly, hampering vehicular movement and pedestrian traffic. The inundation has led to traffic jams, with many vehicles stranded on roads, and public transport services have been disrupted.
Emergency response teams from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) are on the scene in various locations, deploying water pumps and redirecting traffic to mitigate the effects of the flooding. Authorities are working tirelessly to clear the drainage channels, but the continued rainfall is complicating these efforts.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the rainfall is likely to continue for the next several days, raising concerns about further waterlogging.
