Rains lashed most parts of Jammu and Kashmir resulting in drop in temperature while Meteorological Department on Thursday predicted erratic weather with intermittent widespread rain will continue till May 30.
The MeT office said that fairly Widespread intermittent light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms and lightning with the Possibility of Hailstorm & gusty winds at few places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
It said on May 27-28 there could be intermittent light rain, thunder or lightning at few places while on May 29-30 fairly Widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunder or lightning with a possibility of Hailstorm & gusty winds at few places of Jammu and Kashmir.
It has also advised farmers to suspend all farm operations during the period.
Currently, the weather is generally cloudy with light rain at a few places. The day temperature dropped 6-10 degree Celsius while the night temperature was recorded below normal by 1-3 degree Celsius except in Kupwara district in Kashmir valley.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains forcing the people and tourists to wear warm clothes.
Srinagar received 6.6mm of rainfall, Qazigund 11.6mm, Pahalgam 20.1mm, Kokernag 21.0mm, Kupwara 5.9mm and Gulmarg 7.8mm during the past 24 hours till 830 hours today.
Srinagar recorded a low of 10.8 degree Celsius against 13.5 degree Celsius and it was 3.0 degree Celsius below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund had a low of 8.0 degree Celsius against 12.4 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 2.3 degree Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 6.1 degree Celsius against 9.2 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.1 degree Celsius below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir.
Kupwara settled at 11.4 degree Celsius against 12.4 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 1.0 degree Celsius above normal for the north Kashmir area. Kokernag recorded a low of 7.4 degree Celsius against 11.4 degree Celsius on the previous night and it was 2.7 degree Celsius below normal for the picnic place of south Kashmir.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 5.0 degree Celsius against 6.0 degree Celsius last night and it was below normal by 1.8 degree Celsius for the world-famous skiing resort of north Kashmir, the MeT office said.
