HED newsletter to showcase achievements, highlight NEP-2020

Prof Talat Ahmad, Mr Talat Pervez chair Editorial Board meeting

August 12, 2020 |

Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad and Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department Mr Talat Pervez Rohella Tuesday said it was important to educate all the stakeholders about the new initiatives being taken in the higher education sector, especially the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Interacting with members of the Higher Education Department’s Editorial Board and other concerned officers of the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir, Mr Rohella called for publication of a “highly-informative” newsletter which would highlight, among other achievements, the best practices in vogue in all higher education institutions in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the initiatives being taken vis-à-vis implementation of the NEP-2020.
“J&K’s Higher Education Department is into a lot of academic and research activities across its institutions. We are into environment, into skill development, into vocational training and other areas. We also have lots of infrastructure, research and academic schemes in vogue. Let all this be highlighted among the stakeholders to let them know what all initiatives are being taken for the welfare of the students, researchers and teachers,” Mr Rohella said, ordering constitution of a five-member team of academics and researchers to finalise the modalities and framework for the proposed newsletter.
“Let there be a chapter in the newsletter on the NEP, a chapter on environment, a chapter on best practices in vogue, a chapter on skill development. It must include everything that the higher education department is about,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Talat Ahmad said the newsletter was a “very good initiative.”
“It is important that people know what the universities and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir are doing vis-à-vis academics, research, infrastructure building and future plans. We publish research papers but not everyone knows about it. So this (newsletter) can be a base for this activity and showcase all the developments happening in different institutions, including the support that colleges get from universities or vice-versa,” he said.
“All these things should be known to the administration and the people at large. We also need to showcase how things are going to change with the new NEP. There will be advantages in the NEP for many who want to do something in the fields of research and academics,” Prof Talat said, assuring full support of the University of Kashmir to the HED’s Editorial Board.
