HM to review security in Valley

Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, is visting Srinagar today to review the security situation in the wake of the prevailining unrest.
Singh will fly down to Srinagar and later hold a meeting with the officers here. According to sources Home Minister will chair a meeting of the top level army and the police officers.
Kashmir Valley has seen escalation in tensions and even after 45 day of the death of the HM militant commander, Burhan Muzafar Wani, the situation remains tense. Even today there were incidents of stone pelting reported including that from the South Kashmir area of Shopian while heavy security was deployed at different intersections.
Officials said that the Rajnath Singh will also hold dialogue and further carry forward the engagement with the local civil society members in continuation of the efforts to restore the normalcy in the region. Singh had come down to Kashmir capital earlier and met traders and business delegations however his comments on taking a tough stand on the seperatists had earned him the wrath of the people.
“ The meeting of the Home Minister is signifcant and some necessary decisions may be taken including the ban on the use of pellet guns,’’ said a senior security official.
Earlier Home Minister announced the constititution of a committee to review the use of the pellet guns which has caused heavy toll on the people. Scores of people have lost their eye sight due to the indiscriminate use of pellet guns and many people have been injured in use of firearms. “ Rajnath Singh may announce some political measures which could really go down well with people. The meeting is coming in the after-math of the visit of Opposition members lead by NC working president, Omar Abdullah, to Delhi. During the meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already announced that there is a need to engage the Kashmir leaders on political front,” said the official.
According to officials Rajnath Singh will travel to Srinagar and later drive straight to the Raj Bhawan where he will hold the consultations seperately with Governor, N N Vohra. Singh will also seek the suggestions from Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, on the measures that could be taken here to improve the situation after the CM on Monday expressed the need for New Delhi to reach out to the people of Kashmir to end the current unrest.
